Concept and Design by Jarin Moriguchi
In collaboration with Raeann Van Zee
Spikey Twisty is a process-driven display typeface developed collaboratively with Raeann Van Zee. The project explored contrast in sensibility, using constraint and separation as structural tools.
Each designer developed a set of glyphs independently, working from a shared prompt without visibility into the other’s progress. The system relied on trust in the brief rather than stylistic alignment.
The resulting typeface balances elegance and distortion. Forms shift between refinement and instability, often approaching illegibility while remaining functional as a display face. Compositions vary unpredictably as glyphs are paired, producing a dynamic tension between cohesion and disruption.
